This Drosera capensis wide leaf was made at our nursery about a decade ago. We reproduce them by seed, root cuttings or aquatic leaf cuttings. This plant is great for luring and consuming fungus gnats and fruit flies.
Lighting: Drosera capensis require high light growing conditions. They want to be in a western or southern window. We grow ours under LED grow lights that we leave on for at least 13 hours a day.
Watering: Drosera capensis need to be sitting in low mineral water at all times! Do not let them dry out, they will perish quickly.
Potting mix: The reason why carnivorous plants modified their leaves to consume insects is due to their growing conditions. They grow in very acidic and nutrient poor soil. We use a mix of peat moss and perlite for substrate.
Temperatures: Drosera capensis will thrive as an indoor plant. In some warmer southern states may be able to grow them outdoors year round as long as the temperatures ranges between 80 degrees F during the day and not dipping below 40 degrees F at night.
We will ship this plant bare root wrapped in sphagnum moss via USPS priority mail. We typically ship orders out on Tuesdays. We suggest a 72 hour heat pack for shipping during the colder months.
