U. livida

$15.00

We are now offering Utricularia! Utricularia livida is a terrestrial species that grows between rocks and sand. All of its carnivory is below ground. Utricularia develop little bladders on their root structures that suck in microscopic insects. Above ground they produce stolons that will cover the surface of the substrate and they produce the cutest little flowers.

Lighting: Terrestrial Utricularia require high light growing conditions. They want to be set in a western or southern window. We grow ours under LED grow lights that we leave on for at least 13 hours a day.

Watering: Utricularia need to be sitting in low mineral water at all times. They like their pots to be flooded with water once or twice weekly.

Potting mix: The reason why terrestrial Utricularia modified their root structure to consume insects is due to their growing conditions. They grow in nutrient poor soil. We use a mix of peat moss and perlite substrate.

Temperatures: Utricularia thrive as an indoor plant. In some warmer southern states these plants may be able to grow outdoors year round as long as the temperatures are between 85 degrees F during the day and not dipping below 40 degrees F at night.

We will ship a 1” plug in a plastic container via USPS priority mail. We typically ship orders out on Tuesdays. We offer heat packs for shipping during the colder months.
